Merv | 16 May 2008 - No, it’s not the new Brad Pitt movie, but a real life invasion facing residents of Houston, Texas. Swarms of little
‘crazy raspberry ants‘ as they are dubbed, apparently arrived on board a cargo ship and are now invading homes and offices of Houston residents; particularly taking a fancy for electricals and computers resulting in damage and malfunctions.
They are called ‘crazy’ because of the erratic movements they make and ‘raspberry’ after Tom Raspberry, the exterminator who first encountered them. The flea-sized ants are said to be near impossible to eradicate with multiple queens within a colony. Their attraction to electricals is a mystery to scientists. There may be an upside to this infestation though as the ‘crazy raspberry ants’ are equally fond of snacking on fire ants, another pesky problem in Texas.
