With news popping around about ATI cards needing some tweak to bring the fan speed up to keep the operation temp down, quite alot of ppl staying in the ever summer Malaysia are thinking twice before getting one themselves. Of cause, there’s an option of buying the excellent after market cooler and changing it yourself, which is kinda technical and will definitely void your warranty.

Fortunately, alot of them are starting to come out with non-reference cooler for the video card. The notable addition to the market would be Gainward HD 4870 Golden Sample edition, which is currently available in Penang via Precess Technology (Pristine Wireless) in BJ Complex. Comes with dual fan, one for the core while the other for the RAM. If you’re not in Penang, you can have it delivered by ordering from this site. Which obviously, price listed there doesn’t include delivery charges.

Another one that was just announced is from Sapphire with its exlusive Vapor-X cooler, called SAPPHIRE HD 4870 TOXIC Edition, view details here. One little piece of detail catches my eyes, says there that it supports Game Physics Processing Capability….. Well I know ATI aligned itself with Intel to support havok but I don’t see any info of it at work yet. Perhaps it’s jumping on the Physx bandwagon? WOOHOO!! Anyway I have no idea if this is available in Penang yet, I’m still asking around for it.
