Well, everyone is going gaga over AMD’s AM2 release. But going DDR2 doesn’t really help much in terms of performance IMHO, or at least, maybe not untill DDR2 1066MHz is out. Well sure you’ll probably get superb result when it comes to bandwidth test but when it comes to real world performance, it just doesn’t cut it, just check out the mid range comparison between AM2 and Socket 939 by MadShrimps. If you’re upgrading from Socket 939 I would not really recommend it, but if you’re building a new PC or upgrading from socket 754, I would say go ahead. The fact is even that the performance is not really up to par now, AMD has the history of long socket lifetime, the future upgrade path for AM2 seems bright, just check out the scoop they just got on the next gen AMD processor, the K8L, by DailyTech.
