Well, AMD’s silence release is apparently noticed by the world now. Just head over to AMD for AMD Athlon64 X2 update.
AMD Dual-Core Optimizer - The AMD Dual-Core Optimizer can help improve some PC gaming video performance by compensating for those applications that bypass the Windows API for timing by directly using the RDTSC (Read Time Stamp Counter) instruction. Applications that rely on RDTSC do not benefit from the logic in the operating system to properly account for the affect of power management mechanisms on the rate at which a processor core’s Time Stamp Counter (TSC) is incremented. The AMD Dual-Core Optimizer helps to correct the resulting video performance effects or other incorrect timing effects that these applications may experience on dual-core or multiple processor systems.Personally, I can’t seem to get it to work, unlike alot of other people. I do notice the installation program modifying the Boot.ini file which I’m not using cause I’m dual booting with Vista Beta, and my boot up is controlled by the Vista bootloader. Also, the installation program did try to contact something in the internet, anyone who manage to made this work and see the increase in performance, do let me know :). LEAVE A COMMENT
