Another PIKOM PC Fair rolled into town today, at least this time I’m there with a purpose - got myself a new AVR and a new Lite-On 16x DL DVD burner. I decided against the lightscribe model due to the fact that lightscribe media is currently still stupendously expensive, and the drive is rm100+ more. Anyway, it’s just another PC Fair in general, much like the others. Lots of people, promotions and you can’t walk in peace for 3 minutes without someone asking you “StreamyX sir ? Free modem.. free this .. free that” which my answer was “I’ve been using it for 3 years and I’ve been cursing for 3 years!”. I’m still glad though, at least it’s still IT related, I don’t hear people asking me if I want to have credit card, they are not at the fair like the last few times (YIPPEEE!), they’ve been forced to station outside of the fair area, so just don’t go near them, lol.

Active Xtreme made their debut at the fair by displaying their watercooled Intel SLI system in a Thermaltake TaiChi casing (couldn’t get a good shot of the front due to heavy human traffic), their shop may be new in town but they are definitely not, word on the street says they are quite an elite group of modders! SwissPac being their magnificent self, took up 4 lots for their impressive display on a wide array of products. If you’re in the market for CoolerMaster casings or Altec/SonicGear speakers, I’d say they have the most variety. GadgetZone as usual picked a strategic location, displaying all their burners, linksys products, VERY cool looking Logitech G7 mouse (diff from the initial model), and other stuff. Lots of shops are promoting thumbdrives, AMD processors price drop, cheap LCDs, printers, speakers, UPS, Imation DVD+Rs going for around RM2.50 each… wasn’t that interested in those so I didn’t really check the price. A notable PC Fair promotion would be one from GadgetZone - the ViewSonic VA1912w, a 19 inch widescreen 8ms 500:1 300cd/m2 D-SUB DVI-D LCD at only RM999 !!! It may not be their best LCD monitor but at that price, its really worth the consideration. For more info on it, click here. A Jaring booth was also spotted, didn’t manage to ask for info there, I wonder if they are bringing broadband to Penang.

I found this year’s PC fair to be a bit lackluster. There was nothing that stood out among the booths. Maybe it was just because every sales guy jumps in front me of saying “Cheap cheap PC, less than 2K”. Don’t ever buy that crap.
